The Sounds of Cheatin’

The Sounds of Cheatin’

In the history of recorded music, no subject has been written about so tirelessly as love. In the history of recorded love songs, no subject has been written about so tirelessly as lovin’ outside the lines. At one time or another, everyone’s had their say: the cheaters (“Back Door Man,” “Back Door Santa”), the cheated-on (“I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart”), the cheated-on-and-revenge-minded (“These Boots Are Made for Walkin’,” “Before He Cheats,” “Ten Cent Pistol”), the cheated-on-and-begging-for-more (“I’m Not the Only One”), the been-caught-cheatin’ (“It Wasn’t Me”), the cheatin’-’n’-hidin’ (“The Dark End of the Street,” “Creep,” “Break You Off,” “She Don’t Have to Know”) . . . Suffice it to say, there are as many cheatin’ songs as there are cheaters. Wherever he/she/you/whoever is doing what shouldn’t be done, he/she/you/whoever is going to need a soundtrack to accompany every lowdown, shameful, unbelievably thrilling moment. That’s where we come in . . .
